November 4 - Saint Charles Borromeo (1538-1584) -Patron of Seminarians - Saint Charles, a nephew of Pius IV, was made Cardinal-Archbishop of Milan at 22, and became Papal Secretary of State to his uncle; he was instrumental in assembling the Council of Trent and composing Roman Catechism; Nepotism wasn’t always bad For more see web link |

NOVEMBER 9 - DEDICATION OF St JOHN LATERAN [Feast] - Cathedral of Rome - This is the oldest patriarchal Basilica - The Patriarchal Churches are so named because each was once associated with one of the four Patriarchs of the Church - Saint John Lateran for the Pope, the Patriarch of the West, Saint Peter [November 18] for the Patriarch of Constantinople, Saint Paul Outside-the-Walls [November 18] for the Patriarch of Alexandria, and Saint Mary Major { August 5] for the Patriarch of Antioch; upon the East-West split all four reverted to the Pope; St John’s was built on the Site of Constantine's Palace and dedicated to St John the Baptist For more see web link |

November 10 - Saint Leo the Great (Pope 440-461) - Doctor of the Church; Sdaint Leo is the author of many teachings, especially on the Person of Christ and Incarnation; He turned back Atilla (Huns) at gates of Rome, persuaded Genseric (Vandals) to spare city and inhabitants For more see web link |

November 11 - Saint Martin of Tours (317-397) - Patron of Soldiers, Wine Growers & France - Saint Martin is the first non-Martyr to have a Feast Day in Western Church; Born in Hungary, as a soldier and catechumen he is noted for having given half his cloak to a beggar at age 22; Soon after he entered religious life and became Bishop of Tours in 371; He promoted monasticism and urged leniency toward heretics. November 13 -Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850-1917) Patroness of Immigrants Saint Frances founded Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Italy to care for poor children; she brought the order to US in 1889 at request of Pope Leo XIII; She crossed ocean some 30 times, and worked with immigrants in many areas including Los Angeles; She is the first US Citizen to be canonized (1946) For more see web link |

November 17 - Saint Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231) - Patroness of Franciscan 3rd order and Catholic Charities; Saint Elizabeth, the daughter of Alexander II, King of Hungary, married Louis of Thuringia when she was 14; with the encouragement of her husband, she devoted herself to penance and charity; after Louis was killed in Crusades, she arranged for care of their three children and became tertiary at the age of 21; (probably she was exiled by her brother -in-law because of expense of her good deeds) She built the Franciscan hospital at Marburg and devoted life to care of sick until her death at 24; She was canonized four years later For more see web link |

November 21 - Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary - It was the custom of time to dedicate children to temple for education and service; Tradition says Mary was so presented at age three. For more see web link |

November 22 - Saint Cecelia (late 2nd century) - Patroness of Musicians - symbol the Organ - Saint Cecelia wrote the poem Passio exalting virginity; Details of her life and death are sketchy; She was a virgin and betrothed to a pagan, Valarian; she converted him and his brother Tiburtius; They were martyred together with Maximus; She has been remembered in the canon of mass from early times; Her relics were moved to church in 9th cent, and her body was still incorrupt in 1599 For more see web link |
