February 1- 4th   Sunday in Ordinary Time. 1st reading Deuteronomy 18:15-20: Psalm 95:1-2, 6-9; 2nd reading 1 Corinthians 7:32-35; Gospel Mark 1:21-28  Let us be free of anxiety [1 Cor 7:32] for Jesus teaches with authority [Mk 1:22,27] as promised by Moses [Deut 18:15] so let us not harden our hearts when we hear His voice [Ps95:7-9]

ORDINARY TIME I

February 2 - The Presentation of the Lord [Feast]. 1st reading Malachi 3:1-4; Psalm 24:7-10; 2nd reading Hebrews 2:14-18; Gospel Luke 2:22-40.  Jesus comes to the Temple [Lk 2:32] as foretold by the prophet Malachi  [Mal 3:1].  He is the King of Glory [Ps 24:8] yet like us in all things [Heb 2:14].  For more on this feast see the Saints Calendar. 
February 8 -
5th  Sunday in Ordinary Time.
1st reading Job 7:1-4, 6-7; Psalm 147:1-6; 2nd reading 1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23; Gospel Mark 1:29-39.  Jesus brings us the promise of healing [Mk 1:34] that we not cry out in hopelessness like Job [Job 7:1].  He heals broken hearts [Ps 147:3] and sends us the bearers of the Good News of Salvation [1 Cor 9:18]. 

February 15 - 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time.  1st reading Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46; Psalm 32:1-2, 5, 11; 2nd reading 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1; Gospel Mark 1:40-45. The leper, representing all sinners, is healed by Jesus [Mk 1:41] and restored to the community from which he had been separated [Lv 13:46].  Let us repent our sins [Ps 32:5] and serve our community [1 Cor 10:33]. 

 

LENT

Lent is the season when the Catechumens prepare to receive Baptism at the Easter Vigil Mass.  Please join them in prayer and penance to prepare to renew your Baptismal Promises at Easter. For more see web link

 February 18 - Ash Wednesday - Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel. Today we receive ashes on our forehead as a sign of our commitment to repent, convert, fast, pray and do penance. 1st reading  Joel 2:12-18; Psalm 51:3-6, 12-14, 17; 2nd reading  2 Corinthians 5:20-6:2; Gospel  Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18.   Let your penance be for internal growth; not external show [Mt 6:1].  Admit your sin [Ps 51:3] with repentant heart [Jl 2:12] and be reconciled to God [2 Cor 5:20]     For more see web link 

 February 22 - 1st Sunday of Lent - 1st reading  Genesis 9:8-15; Psalm  25:4-9; 2nd reading  1 Peter 3:18-22; Gospel  Mark 1:12-15.  After His baptism by John Jesus prepares for His public ministry by 40 days of penance in the desert [Mk1:12-15].  God promised Noah that He would never again destroy us with water [Gen 9:16].  He will instruct us in His way [Ps 25:4] and heal us in the waters of Baptism [1 Pt 3:21].
