August  6 - Transfiguration [Feast]  - 1st reading Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14; Psalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 9; 2nd reading 2 Peter 1:16-19; Gospel Mark 9:2-10  The vision seen by Peter and his companions [Mk 9:2-8; 2 Pt  1:16-19] confirms the prophecies of Jesus Glory [Dn 7:13-14, Ps 97:1-2, 5-6, 9]    [for more see Saints Calendar]

August 7 - 19th  Sunday in Ordinary Time. 1st reading Wisdom 18:6-9; Psalm 33:1, 12, 18-22; 2nd reading Hebrews 11:1-2, 8-19; Gospel Luke 12:32-48   Be ready for the Master’s return [Lk 12:35-36] have faith like our fathers in Egypt [Wis 18:6-7]; and our father Abraham [Heb 11:8-10] and wait for the Lord [Ps 33:20-22]  

August 15 - VIGIL OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY INTO HEAVEN  1st reading 1 Chronicles 15:3-4, 15-16; 16:1-2; Psalm 132:6-7, 9-10, 13-14; 2nd reading 1 Corinthians 15:54-57; Gospel Luke 11:27-28;  Blessed is Mary who heard and observed the word of God [Luke 11:16] and who carried the Word of God [Luke 11:15] as the ark of the New Covenant [1Chron 15: 3-4, 15-16; 16:1-2].  Free of sin, she has victory over death [1 Cor 15:54-57].

 August 15 - ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY INTO HEAVEN [Solemnity]   1st reading Revelation 11:19, 12:1-6, 10; Psalm 45:10-12, 16; 2nd reading 1 Corinthians 15:20-27; Gospel Luke 1:39-56;  With Mary let us praise the Lord [Lk 1:46-55] She has been Assumed to heaven [Rev 11:19] to sit with her Son [Ps 45:10] in the home prepared for us her children [1 Cor 15:23]  [For more see Saints Calendar] 

August 14 - 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time. 1st reading Jeremiah 34:4-6, 8-10; Psalm 40:2-4, 18; 2nd reading Hebrews 12:1-4; Gospel Luke 12:49-53  Jesus warns us to expect conflict and opposition [Lk 12:49-53]  We are in a race [Heb 12:1-4] like Jesus and the prophets of old we will be assaulted [Jer 38:4-6] but God will be with us [Jer 38:8-10, Ps 40:2]

August 21 - 21st  Sunday in Ordinary Time. 1st reading Isaiah 66:18-21; Psalm 117:1-2; 2nd reading Hebrews 12:5-7, 11-13; Gospel Luke 13:22-30;  The Lord calls all men to Himself [Is 66:18], His kindness extends to all [Ps 117:2], yet only some will be admitted [Lk 13:24] so accept His discipline [Heb 12:5-7] which prepares you for His gifts.  

August 28 - 22nd   Sunday in Ordinary Time. 1st reading Sirach 3:17-18, 20, 28-29; Psalm 68:4-7, 10-11; 2nd reading Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24; Gospel Luke 14:1, 7-14;  The Lord is close [Heb 12:23-24] to those to those who are humble [Sir 3:17-18], He gives a home to the forsaken [Ps 68:6-7] and calls the lowly to come closer [Lk 14:7-14]
