The History of Holy Spirit

Original hand drawing given to Fr. Joseph Knerr

Our parish was established in June 1972 by Cardinal Timothy Manning, who was then the Archbishop of Los Angeles, and given the beautiful title" Holy Spirit". Our Sunday Masses were celebrated at Fountain Valley High School cafeteria for almost two years until the completion of the first part of our multi-purpose building in 1974. They were the original six classrooms which are primarily used for C.C.D. and religious education. The whole building, which includes our parish hall plus the six original classrooms, was completed in 1976. This was the same year that the Diocese of Orange was established under the leadership of Bishop William R. Johnson. After that we built our Rectory and finally our new church, which was dedicated by Bishop Norman F. McFarland, the second Bishop of Orange, on December 6, 1987.

Sincerely
Reverend Monsignor Timothy J. Doyle

            Our Church HOLY SPIRIT PARISH

Who is Holy Spirit Catholic Church' patron saint?

The patron of Holy Spirit Church is The Holy Spirit; our paternal feast is Pentecost.
We also celebrate the Anniversary of the Consecration of Holy Spirit Church on Dec. 6.

As we have just completed the installation of the last liturgical and devotional pieces of Sacred Art in our Church, and as we prepare for the great liturgical seasons of Lent, the Tritium ( translation: "The Three Days" - Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday ) and Easter, we take this opportunity to clarify for all our parishioners the meaning and purpose of our worship space.

Parish Mission Statement - January 12, 2006

We, the Parish Community of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, are a family of many cultural backgrounds.  Our mission is to enrich the spiritual life of all parishioners, through the active participation in prayer and the sacraments, promoting opportunities to grow in faith and hope, and providing a place to come together in the love of God and neighbor.  We are committed to the needs of our parishioners and to reach beyond to serve the needs of others.  We are called by the Spirit to witness the forgiving, healing and saving presence of Jesus as one Church and one people.
